Children Blossom at Market on Madison

The next three Saturdays in April are packed with kid-friendly fun at the farmers market!

The 2016 farmers market season is off to an exciting start with over twenty vendors each week and an average of 250 shoppers per weekend. This year we're planning family-friendly events throughout the season in an effort to bring new visitors to the market. Over the next three weeks, Market on Madison will host several interactive children's events including a gardening workshop, Earth Day, and touch-a-tractor.

Children's Garden Workshop

April 16th at 10:00 a.m.

Erin Garden Club invites little gardeners ages 5 to 12 to attend a hands-on gardening class where they will learn how to plant flowers and vegetables. Each child will decorate a clay planter and learn how to pot zinnias and tomatoes, which they can take home and nurture for weeks and months to come.

Earth Day at the Market

April 23rd, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Keep Dublin Laurens Beautiful will teach the importance of conservation and recycling in a fun, interactive way.  Children will learn how to make recycled paper, paint a paper mural, and enjoy coloring, face painting, story telling, and temporary tattoos. Children can also take part in a Earth Day scavenger hunt and win a prize.  Farmers market shoppers that spend a minimum of $5 may register to win a basket of market goodies.

Touch-A-Tractor

April 30th, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Blanchard Equipment Company will showcase tractors and farm equipment during Touch-A-Tractor.  Children will get to see what it's like to "drive" the big tractors and learn how each one helps farmers grow our food.  There will be a toy tractor race (BYOT, Bring Your Own Tractor) where children ages 3 to 12 can compete for prizes from 9:30 to 10:00 am.

"The farmers market has really become the place to be on Saturday mornings.  We are looking for new ways to grow the market and this season looks really good so far," said Main Street Dublin Director, Tara Bradshaw.  "We are now accepting credit and debit cards, as well as doubling EBT dollars with Wholesome Wave.  We hope this program, coupled with fun events for the family will encourage the community to visit the market, get to know our farmers, and shop local."

Market on Madison is open every Saturday, April through October, 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
